WATER IS GOOD FOR YOU
Drinking adequate water is an essential part of health maintenance. In fact, deprivation of water can cause death in 2 to 3 days.
Human bodies are about 2/3 water and the main component of our cells.
Why should we drink the 64 to 80 ounces of water per day recommended by the American Dietic Association????????
When you do not drink enough water, your body tries to retain water, resulting in swollen hands, legs, and feet. If you drink adequate water, edema is reduced and excess sodium is washed away.
Water helps kidneys function properly. When kidneys do not work to capacity, they pass on work to the liver.
This extra load on the liver keeps it from completing other tasks such as metabolizing stored fat. Drink plenty of pure water to give your liver more time to get rid of stored fat!
Water lubricates joints, cushions internal organs, and acts as a shock absorber for the eyes, spinal cord, and for developing fetuses.
As the body heats up, water is released in the form of sweat, which cools the body by evaporation. A loss of 10% in your body water can cause dehydrated that has symptoms of lethargy and an elevated body temperature. Dehydration may lead to heat exhaustion, or heat stroke, while prolonged dehydration may lead to serious illness such as heart problems.
Water aids in the absorption in nutrients, and moves food through the gastrointestinal tract, which helps prevent constipation. Water transports nutrients for us, and carries away cellular waste products.
Optimum water intake is believed to improve ones complexion and muscle tone.
While individual water needs vary, many people do not drink enough water. People who live in hot climates (such as North Texas) work or play outdoors, or have such physical problems such as fever or diarrhea need more water.
On the other hand, some individuals with certain heart, lung, or kidney problems, may be advised by their physicians to restrict fluid intake at times.
Although caffeinated drinks contain water, they may contribute to dehydration. Caffeine in coffee, tea, and soft drinks acts as a diuretic, causing increased urination, further depleting the water supply of your body.
